How I started PC gaming with one hand after my stroke

Gaming was more than just a hobby—it was my world. It was how I connected with friends, embraced competition, and lost myself in incredible virtual landscapes. But at 13, everything changed. After my stroke, I lost mobility in my left arm, and one of the hardest things to accept was that gaming, something I once loved so much, suddenly felt out of reach.
I wasn’t ready to give up, though. I knew there had to be a way to play again, even if it meant rethinking the way I approached gaming entirely. Most controllers are designed for two hands, which created challenges, but I experimented with different techniques and devices until I found what worked best for me: a specialized gaming mouse with interchangeable attachments.
This mouse came with three options—2 buttons, 7 buttons, and 12 buttons. At first, I tried the 2-button attachment, but it quickly became clear that most PC games require more controls, especially when using only a mouse. Switching to the 7-button attachment made a huge difference, allowing me to play much more comfortably. The 12-button attachment was my ultimate goal, but I learned it takes time and practice to adjust. Now, I can program each button to suit the games I love—whether I’m diving into Elder Scrolls Online, battling in Fortnite, strategizing in Call of Duty, competing in CSGO, or exploring the world of Marvel Rivals.
Every game requires slight adjustments, but the core movement mechanics remain the same. Figuring out this setup brought back a part of my life that I thought I had lost. Gaming isn’t just about pressing buttons—it’s about creativity, perseverance, and adapting to challenges. I proved to myself that even when faced with obstacles, determination can rewrite the rules.

I encourage anyone who tries this mouse to bind whatever is most comfortable, but these binds have worked great for me. Remember, it's going to take some time for you to remember all of your binds at first.

Hi, speaking of how hard it is to play video games, also online, I recorded a video gameplay where I tried to play a one-handed shooter.
I used one of these programs to record my screen. I never thought it would be so hard to play with one hand, even though I used all the tips from this blog.
Since I have never played video games, never thought about how hard it would be with one hand! You have certainly found new ways to do things, Andrew! So proud of you.
